On Stream
A bit of late start to stream while I was waiting on a call back 🙃
Spent a lot of stream drawing out plans for the UI to update stream information like titles, categories, tags. It was interesting to see how other bots handled allowing the user to pick categories and think of the logic behind it.
Despite the Twitch API documentation not listing it, there is a 140 character limit and attempting to update it to anything longer via the Modify Channel Information endpoint will return a 400 error “Title is too long”. Also checked how many characters before a stream title is truncated on the browse page and seems like this varies depending on the size of the window among other factors. For the most part, you can probably have 30 characters display nicely underneath a thumbnail.
Next, I looked into Stream Categories! We talked about a couple of different options to display it on the UI, but Im still not sure what I want to do. I did test out the Get Games endpoint where the user has to supply either the game ID or category name to verify it exists and for more information – seems like spaces are okay, sometimes punctuation is important?, but the spelling definitely needs to be correct.
So that I can say some progress was made, I made it so that the current stream title & category display on the Home screen. This automatically updates when the title & category is changed, huzzah! Not the prettiest design, but it’ll eventually get there lol
